Vomiting and diarrhoea are common in adults, children and babies. They’re often caused by a bug and get better in a few days.

Common Symptoms

  • Feeling sick (nausea)
  • Diarrhoea
  • Being sick (vomiting)
  • Temperature 38c or above
  • Headache
  • Aching arms or legs

Treatment at home

  • Stay at home and get plenty of rest
  • Drink lots of fluids
  • Eat when you feel able to – you don’t need to eat or avoid any specific foods
  • Take paracetamol if you’re in discomfort

When should I book a GP?

  • You have signs of dehydration (dark smelly pee or peeing less than usual)
  • You need to stop diarrhoea for a few hours
